Is this you?

  • You feel stiff, tight or just “not right” in your body.
  • You have ongoing or recurring back, neck or joint issues.
  • You have tried exercises, physio or online advice without lasting change.
  • You want a simple explanation and a practical next step you can trust.

You do not need another list of generic exercises. You need to understand what your body has been doing — and how to start changing it.

When your body feels stiff and nothing seems to last

Many people in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond quietly put up with feeling stiff and tight. You may notice it when you first get out of bed, when you stand up after sitting, or when you try to turn your head while driving.

You might have ongoing back pain, neck pain that is not going away, or an ache that keeps returning in the same hip, knee or shoulder. Some days are better, some are worse, but the general sense is that your body does not feel like it used to.

You might have tried stretches, strength exercises, physio, massage or online videos for back pain help at home. They may have helped for a short time, but your body keeps drifting back to the same stiff, tight feeling.

It is frustrating, and often a bit worrying. You may be asking yourself:

  • Why does my body feel stiff all the time?
  • Why do I feel tight even when I stretch?
  • Why is my posture getting worse?
  • Why is this neck or back pain not going away?

You are not alone. There is a clear reason this happens, and it usually develops slowly over many years.

Why your body feels stiff: gradual load and adaptation

Your body is always adapting to the loads you put through it — how you sit, stand, move, work and rest. These loads add up over time. The body does its best to cope, and it usually does this very well for many years.

Eventually, the way the body has adapted starts to show. Muscles tighten to protect certain areas. Other areas become overworked. Joints may not move as freely as they used to. You start to feel stiff, tight or restricted.

Posture is a response, not the cause

People often worry that their posture is the problem. In most cases, posture is your body’s response to the loads it has been dealing with — not the starting cause. If your head drifts forwards, or your shoulders round, it is usually because your body has been quietly rearranging itself to cope.

Symptoms are often compensation, not the first problem

By the time you feel pain, tightness or stiffness, your body has often been compensating for a long time. The place that hurts is not always the place that started the pattern. That is why simply stretching the tight area or strengthening the painful area does not always work for long.

To really help a body that feels stiff all the time, we need to understand the pattern your body has created — how you stand, how you move, and how different areas are sharing the load.

In simple terms

  • Your body adapts to how you use it.
  • Those adaptations become your posture.
  • Stiffness and pain are often signs of overload.
  • Changing the load can let your body start to change.

The aim of the Personal Body Review is to make this pattern visible and understandable for you, so you know exactly where to start.

Why most approaches don’t give lasting change

There is no shortage of advice for stiff bodies and posture problems. The difficulty is knowing what is right for your body, at this point in time.

Generic exercises

Search for “back pain help at home” or “posture problems causes” and you will find long lists of stretches and strengthening drills. Some are useful, some are not, but very few are chosen with your body in mind.

Random exercises can temporarily ease tightness, but if they do not change the pattern your body is using, the stiffness usually returns.

Treating symptoms, not patterns

It is very common to focus on the spot that hurts — the painful neck, the aching lower back, the tight hamstring. But if that area is part of a wider pattern of compensation, working only there is like repainting a damp wall without fixing the leak.

Without understanding how your whole body is sharing the load, treatments and exercises tend to give short-term relief rather than steady change.

Understanding comes first. Once you know why you feel tight all the time, it becomes much easier to choose one or two simple actions that actually make sense for your body.

The Personal Body Review: a calm, clear starting point

The Personal Body Review is a remote, asynchronous service. There are no appointments to attend and no time pressure. Instead, you send me a small set of photos and simple movement videos, and I study how your body has adapted over time.

I then record a short, personalised video for you, in plain language, explaining what I see and how it links to your stiffness, tightness or persistent pain. You will also receive a written summary and 2–3 precise actions to start with.

There is no ongoing commitment. You can take your time to watch, read, and start applying the plan at your own pace, in your own home.

How it works

  • You answer a short online questionnaire.
  • You upload a few standing photos from different angles.
  • You upload 2–3 simple movement videos (instructions provided).
  • I review everything carefully within 3–5 working days.
  • You receive your video explanation and written plan by email.

Everything is designed so you can complete it in your own time, from home.

What you receive in your Personal Body Review

1. Personalised video explanation

You receive a short video (usually 10–15 minutes) in which I talk you through what I see in your photos and movement. I explain how your posture, joint positions and movement patterns relate to your stiffness, tightness or pain.

The aim is that your body starts to make sense to you — without jargon or fear.

2. Clear written plan

Alongside the video, you receive a written summary in everyday language. This outlines what is most likely driving your symptoms and what your body needs more of and less of from now on.

You can refer back to this at any time and share it with other practitioners if you choose.

3. 2–3 simple actions to start with

  • 2–3 specific actions chosen for your body (not a long list).
  • Clear guidance on how often to do them and what to look for.
  • Small, manageable changes you can fit into daily life.
  • Designed to change the load on your body, not just chase symptoms.

You will also know what to expect: which feelings are normal as your body starts to adjust, and when it would be sensible to seek further help.

Many people use their Personal Body Review as a reference point they can return to whenever they notice their body drifting back into old patterns.

Why this gentle approach works

After more than 25 years as a chiropractor, I have seen that many people do not need more force or more complicated exercises. They need clarity, simplicity and a plan that respects how their body has adapted so far.

  • We start with clarity: why your body feels stiff, tight or out of balance.
  • We keep it simple: 2–3 focused actions instead of a long list.
  • We work with your body: no forcing, no “pushing through” sharp pain.
  • We change the load: so your body has a chance to reorganise itself over time.

This is not a quick fix, and it is not a guarantee that every symptom will disappear. It is a reliable way to understand your starting point and to give your body the best chance to move in a better direction, step by step.

Frequently asked questions

Can this work without hands-on treatment?

Yes. Hands-on treatment can be helpful, but it is only one way of working with the body. In many cases, the most important first step is understanding what your body has been doing over time and what it now needs less of and more of. In your Personal Body Review I look at your posture, movement patterns and history, then explain what is most likely driving your stiffness or ongoing pain. The clear actions you receive are designed so you can start changing the load on your body safely at home.

Is it safe?

Your review focuses on education, gentle changes and working with how your body currently moves. I do not ask you to push through sharp pain or force uncomfortable positions. If anything in your history, symptoms or photos suggests that something more serious may be going on, I will advise you to speak to your GP or appropriate healthcare professional instead of trying to manage it yourself. Your safety is always the priority.

How quickly will I see results?

Some people notice a change in how they feel within a few days of starting their 2–3 key actions. For others, especially if stiffness has built up over many years, change is more gradual. The aim of the Personal Body Review is not a quick fix, but a clear starting point. You will know why your body feels the way it does, and what you can do over the next few weeks so your body has a better chance to start changing.

What if something serious is wrong?

Part of the review is checking for signs that your symptoms might need medical investigation, not self-management. I will ask about any red-flag symptoms in your questionnaire. If anything in your story, photos or movement videos makes me concerned about a more serious cause, I will explain this clearly and recommend that you speak to your GP or appropriate specialist. In that situation, I would not ask you to follow a home plan instead of seeking help.

Is this personalised to me?

Yes. Your Personal Body Review is based on your history, your photos and your movement videos. I am not sending you a generic exercise sheet. You receive a short video explaining what I see in your body, written notes in plain language, and 2–3 specific actions chosen for you. These may include small changes to how you sit or stand, simple movements, or ways to reduce the load that has been building up over time.

If your question is not covered here, you are welcome to ask before you decide whether the Personal Body Review is right for you.

This is the simplest place to start if you want your body to make sense again.

If you keep asking, “why does my body feel stiff?” or “why is this neck pain not going away?”, you do not have to keep guessing. A Personal Body Review gives you a clear picture of what is happening and a calm, practical way to begin changing it.

No appointments. No ongoing commitment. Just a clear review of your body from an experienced UK chiropractor, and a simple, realistic next step.
